QRC in the field - Intern Chelsi Williams

Chelsi Williams, former New Zealand representative in Whitewater Rafting and Canoe Slalom, is currently enjoying New Zealand’s great outdoors while on internship with Abel Tasman Sea Shuttle and Kaiteriteri Kayaks.

Getting out on the water with kayak customers is a big part of Chelsi’s day, shadowing the experienced guiders as they take tourists around the beautiful coastline of the Abel Tasman National Park.

Mark Burnaby, Abel Tasman Sea Shuttle Marketing Manager, says Chelsi gets involved in all parts of the business.

"Chelsi’s role is quite varied from customer service and sales, boat crew as well as kayak guiding. Chelsi will learn a wide range of skills to add to her portfolio during her internship with us," Mark said.

Risk Management and Safety is another focus of the internship which Chelsi is involved in, filling out risk registers and other operational duties.

“I’m loving it, it’s so good. They just want to help you and try to make you feel involved, they’ve made me feel quite welcome,” said Chelsi of the Sea Shuttle team.

“Customers have a great time and want to keep in touch. They want to show you around when you visit their part of the world!”

So where to for Chelsi? Chelsi’s six month internship with Abel Tasman Sea Shuttle and Kaiteriteri Kayaks ends in March 2016 when she’ll return to QRC for terms five and six. But she’s already looking ahead!

“I’ve been asking about getting my qualifications for sea kayak guiding. It will be especially useful if I want to travel and work,” she said.
